Summary

This is a 2 year Program of Study covers the core curriculum for Equine Management, whilst providing additional support for competition riders, through allocated training, strength and conditioning sessions, and competition coaching.

The first year covers a range of practical skills and knowledge that builds your core skills to work around horses, including how to work safely around horses, how to plan and carry out yard operations, understanding horse health care, handling, feeding and nutrition. You will learn about how to prepare horses for presentation, including how to fit a range of tack and equipment. Practical skills such as grooming, clipping, trimming and plaiting will be developed alongside husbandry skills such as mucking out and feeding.

In the second year you will develop an understanding and skills related to event management, as well as understanding the principles of equitation and how to run a business.

Equine students have the opportunity to attend a variety of trips, experiencing local industries and events. Previous trips include visits to the National Stud, Great Yarmouth Race Course, as well as a residential trip in Czechia.

The Program of Study combines the City and Guilds Level 3 Technical Extended Diploma in Equine Management, with work experience and weekend duties, personal development, plus competition training.

Students will need to purchase their PPE for the Equine Centre. Details with what is required will be provided at enrolment. Students will work in all weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors, ensuring our horses are provided with the highest welfare standards. Students will be involved with yard duties, which includes mucking out, maintaining the yards and paddocks, feeding, grooming and exercising the horses.
