What You Will Study
This qualification 0039-21 (CS31) City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Felling Small Trees up to 380mm is for individuals who operate chainsaws as part of their work in arboriculture, forestry or other industries. It will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills, required to fell small trees up to 380mm safely and to industry standards in line with current legislation.
The course content will cover risk assessment, emergency planning, legislation, industry best practice, environmental considerations, recognition of disease and decay, modification of felling methods, setting up supports, felling techniques and cuts, pre-start checks, site preparation, dealing with hung up trees, aid tools, branch removal, dealing with brash, cross-cutting timber to length, staking timber and waste disposal.
The course training is over three days. The assessment will be carried out at a separate time. You will be expected to travel to the felling wood site and bring your own chainsaw that complies with current legal requirements and PPE. A full list of hat you will need will be sent to you closer to the time.
Entry Requirements
Candidates must have achieved City and Guilds 0039-20 Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-Cutting (or equivalent version). Please send proof of previous certificate upon booking.
How You Will Be Assessed
To gain this qualification, you must successfully achieve a one to one practical assessment with oral questioning by an NPTC City and Guilds approved assessor.
The assessment is carried out separate to the training.
Course Progression
You could go on to increase your level of proficiency through consolidation practice within a working environment, or develop skills in 003922 (CS38) tree climbing aerial rescue or 003923 (CS39) chainsaw from a rope and harness.
