Summary

This qualification is for individuals who climb trees as part of their work in arboriculture, forestry or other industries. It will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to climb trees and perform aerial rescue safely and to industry standards in line with current legislation.

On this course it will cover the following;

  • risk assessment
  • emergency planning
  • legislation
  • Industry best practice
  • Environmental considerations
  • Tree condition and working at height assessments
  • Equipment and systems
  • Tree climbing
  • Aerial rescue by climbing suitability
  • Rescue plan and implementation

This course is a 5 day course;
and replaces the old qualification of CS38
You will need to bring and wear the following; You will need to have the following;
Non snag clothing,
Rubber soled boots, suitable for tree climbing,
Writing materials,
Rubber palmed workshop gloves or suitable climbing gloves, (not essential but can help prevent blisters.)

Welcome to bring and use their own climbing equipment, but it must have an in date LOLER check, or be under 6 months old, and be checked by the trainer.

Climbing methods will follow the latest guidance TG1,
The college has a good selection of the latest climbing equipment for learners to familiarise themselves with.

Entry Requirements

Pre-requisite courses need to be completed before taking this qualification involve -

0039-20 Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting.

Learning Outcomes

This qualification will support progression into employment
where tree climbing and rescue is part of the role. Safe
operational skills are key to efficient use, good working practice
and preventing accidents, leading to business benefits in terms
of less machinery damage and down time.

Assessment

NPTC will carry out the assessment, which is separate to the training days.
