Sports students give their views on policing

More students from our college will have the chance to put forward their views, and learn more about policing, following a successful workshop with Norfolk Constabulary.

As part of Black History Month, a group of our Sports students met with members of Norfolk Constabulary’s Diversity Team to give their views on stop and search and of policing in general.

The use of stop search by the police was explained, and a lively debate followed on how young people view the power and what it is used for.

The students had lots of questions around County Lines, offensive weapons, motoring laws, and how long it takes to become a police officer.

The session was deemed such a success that it is going to be replicated at City College Norwich and another visit to Easton is being arranged for December.

Julie Inns, Norfolk Constabulary’s Equality Diversity and Citizens in Policing Manager, said:

It was such a great session with the students, who were a bit hesitant at first but soon warmed up and joined in the conversation. As a police service we rarely get to hear the youth voice in some of our areas of business so it was important to hear what these young people told us and make sure that is fed back into the constabulary.”

Our collaborative work with Norfolk Constabulary continues to provide our students with valuable learning opportunities. We are looking forward to running more sessions like this at our Easton and Norwich campuses in the near future.”
