Fen Farm Dairy is a UK and world-renowned dairy business, producing Artisan Dairy products from the milk of our herd of Montbeliarde cows. We are a close-knit team that takes pride in the care and management of our livestock, and we're looking for a dedicated Herdsperson to join us. Job Description:
As a Herdsperson, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of our dairy herd. This involves caring for the animals, ensuring their health and well-being, and supporting breeding and calving programs. You’ll be part of a team that values quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement, with plenty of opportunities to learn and grow in your role.
Key Responsibilities:
Twice daily milking in a 16/32 Fullwood Parlour
Work with the team to ensure the farm’s equipment and facilities are clean, well-maintained and safe
Ensure the health and welfare of the herd at all times
Assist with breeding and calving, supporting the herd's ongoing health and productivity
Administer necessary treatments and monitor the general well-being of the animals
Maintain accurate records of animal health, treatments, and farm activities
Follow health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members
Skills and Qualifications:
Previous experience working with livestock, particularly dairy cattle, is preferred but not essential
Understanding of animal care and farming practices
Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
A genuine interest in animal welfare and dairy farming
An early bird with good physical stamina, as the role requires early starts and manual labour
A proactive attitude and willingness to learn and develop new skills
A valid driver’s license is essential

Salary
£12.21 - £14.00 per hour
Attendance
30-40 hours per week, but there may be more in busy periods/holiday cover
Milking shifts begin at 4am, until around 10:30/11am, and 2pm until around 6pm
